GENERATIONS BEYOND
BUILD 28A.01.00 for 2024 represents the 28th published year (1996-2024) of CHT (CLARION HANDY TOOLS).
Over those twenty-eight years, CHT has been steadily advancing its toolkit, to give you near total control of Clarion application development with just two template sets: ABCHAIN.TPL and HNDTOOLS.TPL.
In 2022, our 26th year, we encouraged you to consider a break with the past and to build something entirely new using only ABCHAIN.TPL and HNDTOOLS.TPL. Our slogan in 2022 was: "LET'S BUILD SOMETHING NEW!".
To assist with your graduation from past habits, that year, we gave you a 4-Clarion-Version installer as well as the ability to install CHT to multiple installed instances of the same Clarion version, even to the same hardware.
This piece of CHT wizardry allowed you to update, as in the past, your existing Clarion version, even if still encumbered by old, third party templates. However, it also empowered you to install, on the same machine, another stand-alone instance of the same Clarion version, or another, newer Clarion, and to power it using only ABCHAIN.TPL and HNDTOOLS.TPL.
Leveraging CHT, then, you could experiment with 100% CLARION + CHT applications in your new Clarion-instance environment AND still drag your tired, old app, full of obsolete third party templates, forward on a previous Clarion instance.
We gave you well over one hundred demo applications to get you going, building amazing apps with only ABCHAIN.TPL and HNDTOOLS.TPL.
Then, commencing in 2023, our slogan became "OUR FINEST GENERATION". There's a double meaning implied there, of course -- we know you picked up on it!
First, by 2023 CHT had been "generating" applications on behalf of our developer community for a whole "generation" and the "generated code" produced was, at this point, our "finest" code ever.
Again, in 2023, we encouraged you to use only ABCHAIN.TPL and HNDTOOLS.TPL to build original apps of your own devising and/or apps modelled on our 130 or more "HNDAPPS" examples and utilities, all of which provided ".APP" source code for developers to learn from and leverage.
We even gave you a utility app called HNDTPLREGISTRY.APP for four different Clarion versions, pre-loaded with ABCHAIN.TPL and HNDTOOLS.TPL with which to shrink and rebuild your Clarion ".TRF" registry file.
In 2024, our slogan is "GENERATIONS BEYOND".
The implication of what we mean by
Join us and move beyond ordinary, follow-the-crowd, Clarion application development. Take a step past the average, beyond the banal, and beyond the norm, with CHT (CLARION HANDY TOOLS).
REVIEW OF 28A PRE-COMPILED UTILITIES
Provided
For 28A, CHT has pre-compiled thirty-six of our "example/utility" applications to act as developer support utilities located in your
Some of these utility apps, for example, HNDPREVIEWER.EXE, HNDSQLTRACE.EXE, HNDZIPNET.EXE, HNDPRINTHTML.EXE and others, are called directly from our templates, to enhance template functionality and usability.
Some executables, such as HNDSEARCH.EXE, HNDSETUP.EXE, HNDCMP.EXE provide value that no Clarion developer should be without, because they extend the Clarion development experience way beyond Clarion's native contribution.
MODEL ON OUR EXAMPLE APPS
The source code (app file) for all of the above applications and at least 100 more is provided for you to study, or from which to borrow parts via procedure import.
Many of the things you might want to build, or may have considered building yourself, are here waiting to be discovered, and will provide your apps with a generous supply of ideas and importable components.
To aid you as you experiment and discover, we've also supplied with this build, three "STUB" apps. These are entirely empty apps, with one procedure (MAIN or SERVERMAIN) and a dictionary (where one is needed). The apps are called: HNDSTUBFILESERVER.APP, HNDSTUBPAGESERVER.APP and HNDSTUBWINDOW.APP
Get to know CHT example applications and utilities! We'll get you building something awesome, using just your favorite Clarion and our incredible templates, examples, utilities, and naturally, your clever brains.
